The challenge is to jump into the water on a cold winter’s day. Usually you do not really dive, but run into the sea up until to your knees. This promises to be a hilarious event, Keeping the Dutch tradition alive!
Tango was introduced in the Netherlands for the first time in 1913. We celebrate that during the congress.
But also the traditional Dutch New Year’s dive is organized every year from Kurhaus. This has grown into a true Dutch tradition. Reasons enough to make a hilarious day out of the historic Kurhaus.
The seawater has a temperature of around 7 degrees. It is therefore advisable to bring warm clothing, put on a hat and participate in the New Year’s dive warm-up. And afterwards you can enjoy a cup of hot tea, chocolate or pea soup in Kurhaus.

The very first dive !
5 TIPS TO SURVIVE THE DIVE
! Make sure you have a large towel or a bathrobe with you to cover while waiting.
! Join the warm-up and also make sure you stay warm while awaiting. So keep that bathrobe on as long as possible and keep jumping up and down. You do not want to be supercooled before the dive begins.
! Your head, nose, hands and feet cool down the fastest. Make sure these parts stay warm. So put on a hat and nice gloves.
! Vaseline. Just rub your entire body with a thick layer of Vaseline. This gel is water repellent so you stay warm longer than the rest
! Do not dress too thick after the dive. This sounds a bit strange but your body needs to get rid of the cold and receive the heat. So work with layers.
